The Andhra Pradesh government has issued an order, notifying villages that are likely to be affected fully or partially by the proposed nuclear power plant at Kovvada in Ranasthalam block of the coastal district of Srikakulam. The order issued on November 1 by Mrutunjay Sahoo, principal secretary, states that 1,916.27 acres (1 acre equals 0.4 hectare) of land, including 604.12 acres of private land, will have to be acquired for the 6,000 MW project. As per the government’s estimation, 1,983 families (7,960 persons) in five villages will be displaced by the nuclear plant.
The government issued the notification as per the state’s policy—Resettlement and Rehabilitation (R&R) for Project Affected Families, 2005. Villages which figure in the notification of “Project Affected Zone” are Ramachandrapuram, Gudem, Kotapalem, Tekkali and Jeeru Kovvada. The main source of income of people who would be displaced are agriculture, fishing and wage labour, notes the order.
The Department of Atomic Energy of the Central government had given in-principle approval for the 6X 1,000 MW nuclear power plant comprising light water reactors in 2009. The ambitious Rs 60,000 crore plant is being set up by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL).
The government order says the district collector of Srikakulam, in a letter dated June 20, 2012, has stated that the chief engineer of the NPCIL has submitted a proposal for acquiring 2,436.77 acres of land in these villages for installing the reactors, establishing a township and rehabilitating the displaced families. The state government had sanctioned a Land Acquisition Unit in last December for starting the land acquisition process by identifying the land. The acquisition of land and houses will be under the Land Acquisition Act of 1894, says the order.
Land to be acquired (in acres)
Poramboke (government) land 763.51
Village sites 52.89
Assigned land (government land
distributed to the landless):
495.76
Private land 604.12
Total 1,916.27

Security forces have seized fresh pictures of Prashant Bose alias Kishenda — the No. 2 in the Maoist hierarchy — during a raid in Chhattisgarh recently. Officials engaged in anti-Maoist operations believe the pictures, found in a CD, will help hunt down Bose, who carries a reward of Rs 7 lakh on his head announced by the Chhattisgarh and West Bengal governments.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) seized the pictures of Bose along with Maoist literature during a raid at a Maoist camp. The forces also recovered a CD containing videos of the 2010 Dantewada massacre in which 76 CRPF personnel were killed. The Maoists had captured the entire operation on camera and a person was designated to record it, said officials.
The Maoists see the Dantewada massacre as one of their most successful operations. These videos, the security forces believe, were being used to recruit cadres.
“We have retrieved multiple photographs of Bose from CDs that were seized by us and have circulated them among all the security forces and state police forces involved in operations against the Maoists across the country,” said a senior official.
It was not immediately clear when exactly the photographs were clicked. It was also not known where the photographs were clicked.
Till date the security officials only had one close-up grainy photograph of Bose in their dossier. The fresh pictures, which are of finer quality, will held the forces to track down Bose.
Bose belongs to Jadavpur in West Bengal and is said to be aged around 65. A politburo member, he is second-in-command after Laxman Rao alias Ganapathy and reportedly heads the operations in the Bengal-Jharkhand-Orissa region. His wife Sheela Marandi, a member of the core committee of CPI (Maoist), was arrested in 2006.

maoist leaders arrest in odissa

Three Maoists, who were arrested by the Koraput police during combing operation on Tuesday under the Narayanpatna police limits, were produced at a Press conference held by DIG of Police (SW Range) SS Debdatta Singh on Wednesday at Koraput.
The Maoists were identified as Relin Mandangi (24), Uje Sirika (35) of Panabadi village and Tulsa alias Sunita Sirika of Musalmunda village under the Narayanpatna police limits. They belong to the Jana Natya Mandali group of the CPI (Maoist) central committee, the police said. The police also seized a country gun, five pairs of Ghungur (used in dance), 15 meters of service wire, 15 meters of aluminum wire, a camera, two mobile phones, Maoist literature and CMAS literature, DIG Singh informed. The DIG said that during observation of the third day of the PLGA Week by the Maoists, the Jana Natya Dalam was engaged on a membership drive. On intelligence input, the police raided the venue at Panabadi village. Over 100 Maoists supporters, who were in the congregation, fled the spot seeing the police. The local police and CRPF Jawans, however, caught hold of the three ultras, he informed.
The arrested had indulged in many Maoists activities and would be forwarded to court on Wednesday, the DIG said. The accused Sunita is the main office bearer of the Jana Natya Mandali of Andhra-Odisha Border State Zonal Committee, police sources said. However, CMAS chief Nachika Linga, AOBZC secretary Daya, hard core lady Maoist Aruna, including the Maoist supporters Lasu Wateka, Dambu Nachika, Utara Nachika, Gita Tadingi and Shanti Mandinga, who were enlisted in police warrant could managed  to flee the spot during the raid, sources said

lucky chance

It seems some policemen from Bihar have hit a jackpot of sorts, thanks to the arrest of three top-ranked Maoists in one swift operation in the state.
In a major anti-extremism breakthrough, Bihar's Special Task Force (STF) had captured seven Maoists, including three top guns, Varanasi Subramanian, Bijay Kumar Arya and Pulendu Shekhar, from Barsoi in the Katihar district on April 28 last year. They were said to be members of the CPI (Maoist)'s central committee.
In fact, the governments of Jharkhand, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh had announced cash rewards of whopping Rs 72.50 lakh for their arrest.

The Jharkhand government had announced a cash award of Rs 12 lakh each on the arrest of Subrahmanyam, Shekhar and Arya while the Chhattisgarh government had offered Rs 7 lakh on the trio, considered to be among the think-tank of the CPI (Maoist).
Similarly, the Andhra government had announced a cash award of Rs 12.50 lakh on the arrest of Subrahmanyam alone.
Besides, the Bihar government had earmarked Rs 3 lakh for their arrest.
Finally, it was the STF of Bihar Police that apprehended them and became eligible for all the prize money
